GIY proposes to develop a 4,000 sq ft centre and 3 acre urban food garden. It will be a home-grown and local food training centre, urban food growing showcase, cookery school, café, farm shop and gardens, located at the junction of the Dunmore Road and the Outer Ring Road, Waterford. GIY HQ will be the home of the GIY movement internationally, and the hub from which we will run awareness, education and outreach programmes. The urban location makes this a thoroughly unique project. Pivotal International concept behind the GIY HQ was to create a light-filled building with no corridors or visual barriers. The architectural approach was informed by the philosophy of creating open, transparent, and compact spaces to encourage integration, participation and communication between visitors, members and staff in the pursuit of spreading awareness and knowledge. The two-storey circular pavilion building and main entrance can be clearly seen from the roundabout and invites people to enter the building. On entering the building it provides a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable environment for a range of activates to take place such as courses, seminars, large events, food markets, exhibitions etc.
