The brief was to design a public park on the fringes of Galway City that would have a low carbon and ecological impact during its construction and operation. The process would result in a design template for public park design and planning in the city. The core design principles are to work with the existing landscape, creating a park that responds to people and uses low impact building methods. The park is designed to create a range of habitats suitable to the environment, designed to allow creative management solutions, reduce repetitive maintenance operations and allow for flexibility of use. The landscape history is recorded in the park and specific landscape features are highlighted and celebrated using a range of land art features.
